We’re SO Crafty!!

First wanted to mention something that’s been on my mind a bit.  Occasionally someone will ask a question when commenting on my blog. Sometimes the question is rhetorical but sometimes the question deserves an answer.  I don’t usually answer in my own comment  section as the answer often only applies to the commenter and also, I wonder how many people actually go back to a blog’s comments to look for an answer to a question.  Some blogs have the discus response thingy where there is a lot of back and forth dialogue but I don’t have that.  I get emails of all comments left on my blog so I often read them just from email.  If something requires a response I just hit "reply" and away it goes.

Here’s my question…many of you who leave comments have a “no reply” on your profile so I can’t respond to your comments from my email.  Just wondering if that is because you don’t want additional email or if you were not aware thatemail your profile is set up that way.  I don’t want to try and change anyone’s mind about email…that’s an individual decision.  I personally have seen no increase in spam or other problems with having my email show on comments.  I kinda like it when I get a personal reply to a comment I have left.  So just something to think about.  I’m really not ignoring your questions – just can’t respond if your email shows a “no reply”.

Okay, on to the crafty part.  We have a grand daughter than will be 12 on the 6th of December.  (She doesn't read this blog!!)  Cailin is the one who plays the piano and guitar.  She is getting REALLY good on that guitar even without lessons.  Her goal is to play every instrument the Beatles played.  She is enamored of the Beatles and their music and wishes she could have been a hippie in the 60s I think!!

So, I found some pretty fabric that had peace signs all over it and made her a blouse for her birthday.  Then Russ found a pendant at Michael's and he made her a peace sign necklace to go with the blouse.  I thought it was sweet that this big old Grandpa would fiddle with a tiny chain and tools to create something for his grand daughter.  He even learned what a jump ring is!!  We wanted to have this all done before we leave on Monday so it would be ready for her birthday.  Today we both finished our projects.

Here is Russ hard at work today.

And here’s the whole outfit.  I didn’t make the turtle neck but since it’s winter I figured she would need something under this tunic top.  Hope it looks better on than it does draped over the back of my chair!!

Now some of you may think it’s a strange endeavor for a man to make a necklace for a little girl.  Myself, I think it’s one of the sweetest things ever.  Sometimes I wonder how our son learned to be such a good Daddy to those two girls…ya think maybe he had a good example?

  4. I never go back to the blog to check for answers. So I guess I must consider my questions rhetorical. I wondered the same thing when I first started blogging. I wondered if I should answer in a comment on my blog, on their blog, or in an e-mail. Now I don't answer comment questions unless they seem to need an answer. In that case, I'll email.

I think you are BOTH wonderful grandparents. And just wonderful people in general. You are very giving, and that seems to permeate everything you do. Even to your furry guys.

  5. I guess I have to check and see if my e-mail is included with a comment made. I have no idea. Gee, the things I do not know:)

  6. As for 'no-reply comments' I use the 'no tickee, no washee' philosophy!

That necklace will be a beautiful keepsake for your granddaughter. I know she'll love it.

I am like you Donna..sometimes I want to reply to someone's comment and I get the no reply blog address!..drives me crazy!...silly I know but crazy still the same!
now just a small favour from the man I am married to...he loves reading your blog but doesn't want to put his reading glasses on!..I know he could make the page bigger with the %% thing..but he said to me tonight...Can't Donna make the font bigger?..lol..men!

  8. If I have time, I'll sometimes go back and see if my question is answered in the blog comments. Sometimes it gets answered the next day in the blog. I get frustrated by the "no reply" lack of email address, because I think email is the best way to connect with other followers after they leave a comment.

As to your craftiness, I heartily applaud Russ for taking the time and effort to make a necklace for your granddaughter. I also applaud you for making that cute blouse for her. She's a lucky girl. BTW, I've seen lots of peace symbol fabric just recently--it must be a hot item!

  10. First, let me say I agree with Sue and Doug. I find your printing very, very small and have difficulty reading it. Always have to do ALT + to make it bigger. As for comment questions I have been trying to incorporate readers questions in my blog. That way it makes the question answerable to others who may have had the same question. Rare for me to reply to a specific question unless it is of a personal nature. Always nice to see people's patience with crafts.

  13. You and Russ are wonderful grandparents! She is one lucky birthday girl. I loved the pendant and the fact that her grandfather made it himself will make it even more special.
