Merikay’s Road had Scary Curves!

We met with fellow blogger Merikay today.  Merikay and husband Craig recently purchased a new-to-them 35’ Alfa.  Since we are in the area, Merikay invited us to come by and see the new rig.  Now, the rig is lovely…spacious inside and great floor plan.  Here’s Merikay and her Dream with 6 wheels.

But what really surprised me was the road to Merikay’s house.  If you have read her blog, you know she had some issue with trees.  Not only did they have to remove a big tree adjacent to their driveway, they also had to fight with the public works people to get the low hanging branches trimmed along the public road.

And what a road that is!!  It has more curves than Kim Kardasian, and more twists than a John Grishom mystery.  Not only is it curvy and twisty, it is skinnier than a than a marriage manual written by your maiden aunt Mildred.  On one side is a steep drop-off and on the other is mountain side with a deep ditch running alongside.  We were terrified driving our little Fit up there!  NO WAY would we ever drive a motor home on that road.

That Merikay and Craig got that motor home up the hill and then parked is amazing.  Merikay showed us all her visual aids that she uses to help her get Craig backed up in the parking spot.  I’m really thinking they had The Big White Thing delivered by helicopter and just dropped into place!  I have to say, these people are braver than I am.  Hats off to Merikay and Craig.  I’m sure you will have lots of fun in your Motor home.

This evening, Kate and Terry had us over for dinner and made a wonderful chicken salad for us.  It was yummy!  Kate showed me some wonderful silicon bowls and cookware that she uses in the motor home.  Great stuff and I plan on getting some for myself.

I didn’t get a blog done yesterday but we had a wonderful day.  Kate and Terry drove us all over, showing us the sights of the Santa Cruz area and helping us get some technical problems resolved.  I don’t know the names of all the places we went but it was all wonderful.  Russ got a couple of nice shots of the pelicans that hang out along the coast.

What a beautiful place this is.

Can’t wait to see what tomorrow might bring.

  1. Boy, I thought that you guys, being from Oregon, were used to these mountain roads! Nice pictures, we'll see what we can dig up to show you later!

  2. "More curves that Kim Kardasian" good one:)) Hope Russ didn't step in any Pelican Plops to get those photos. Sounds like Merikay has quite a driveway alright. Having a 33' Motor Home ourselves I can only imagine the severe difficulties.

  5. You sure verified what I had thought about that driveway - no way would I consider a motorhome parked there. They are both so brave. The elephant she made looks terrific. Love your pelican photos.

  6. Sure am glad it's Merikay and not me going up that road. Love the pelicans. And thanks for the picture of Merikay and the elephant. Gives me a much better idea of the size of her work. Fabulous.

  10. You do have a way of describing things don't you --- don't envy the job Merikay and Craig have to do each time they want to go out.

  11. It was great to meet you too and I wish I had more time this week to hang out or go to lunch. But the Warthog calls!

I feel very validated about my concerns about our parking situation. Craig just says my worries were "nonsense."

you said it much better than I and i'g going to send my followers over here to read what you wrote.
