Thanks all for your comments on yesterday's blog. Guess it's a lot broader issue than I thought. Oh well, we'll all find our way and hopefully, acceptance for all is the final result. We must all like to read and write blogs or I suppose we wouldn't be doing it. And our reasons can be as varied as we are. I am just having fun getting to see how others live and think and travel. I'm enjoying "meeting" new people and reading their stories. And, I have to admit, I like to write, even if only for my own benefit. That way I can at least remember where we traveled!
I remember back to when I was in high school. When the teacher would announce we were having a test and that it would be an essay exam, the groans could be heard all the way to the Principal's office. I, on the other hand, said a secret "YES". I hated multiple choice and true/false questions. There were so many things to consider and a simple A,B,C, or D might not provide all the elements of the correct response. I always preferred to write out my own answers and why those answers were correct (oh, the arrogance of youth). Besides, I reasoned, if I wasn't sure of the information, I could always write so many words, that the teacher would think I must know something about the subject! I wonder if any of my fellow bloggers had similar experiences??
And so I continue my sometimes self-indulgent pastime of recording my thoughts. I have no desire to write the "Great American Novel"...I just like to write! This is so much easier than the spiral bound notebooks and pencils I used in the past. Easier to type than to hold a writing implement anymore! I say to you, bloggers of the world, Write On!!!

My daughter and granddaughter are coming to visit today so no more blogging for me today! But tune in tomorrow if you have a chance. I am planning to write my final (for now anyway!) post on Bishop. I want to take you all up Hwy. 168, to the Bishop Creek recreation area in the Sierras. You'll see for yourself what happens when two seniors decide to have some fun in the snow.
I think it's fine to acknowledge followers, especially your first few. We start out writing our blogs for ourselves and then when we find out that people are actually interested in what we write, it makes it all the more worthwhile to blog. As you said, the friendship factor is huge. It's fun and rewarding getting to know people through their blogs!

ReplyDeleteMy wife is a very interesting person with a lot of thoughts and feelings that always help me in my life. We've been together now for over 37 years, and our life together just keeps getting better and better. I don't know what I would ever do without her to help balance me.

ReplyDeleteI love writing & blogging too -- and hearing about others travels, lives, etc. English was my fav subject in school. There's just nothing like spending the day with a daughter & granddaughter! Looking forward to tomorrow's ride down Hwy 168.

ReplyDeleteLike you, I much prefer written communication to verbal. Like you again, I am the quiet person in the background trying not to be noticed. Kind of the Oz syndrome. Lots of smoke & fire in the blog sometimes but when the curtain is pulled back it's just a quiet old guy making a lot of noise:))
