What Size Are My Pants?

Okay, this is a true story – I am NOT making this up!

I love to shop at Fred Meyer.  It is a one-stop shopping kind of place, everything from groceries to automotive.  They have the BEST clearance sales ever.

This week they had a special of 70% off all clearance clothing.  This is a great buy.  I got a warm, hooded vest for my grand daughter. Regular price $52.   With the markdown and the additional 70% off, I paid $11 for it.  Found a couple of other items too.

Russ was off looking at electronics while I pawed through all the clothing bargains.  I heard a voice saying, “Excuse me” and I looked up to see a middle age man right in front of me.  He turned around, pulled up his shirt and asked, “Can you tell me what size my pants are?”

Okay, that’s a little strange but I can understand why he might need that information.

“30 32,”  I said.

“And are they 505s?” he asked.

levis505

I was forced to take another look at his skinny hiney and confirm that were indeed style 505.

“Just one more thing,” he said….and he rolled down his waistband and asked, “Are they relaxed fit?”

It was stamped on the inside of the waistband and I confirmed they were relaxed fit. Good thing I can read upside down.  I was relieved that he hadn’t asked for the size on his boxers!  I wondered who dressed him this morning.

With that he went his way and we saw him later at the check out purchasing two pair of Levis so I guess he found what he wanted.   He wasn’t obnoxious but it certainly was something I had never encountered before.

Just goes to show, it doesn’t take much to entertain a senior citizen.

  1. That is just too funny. But nice that you were able to help him out.

  3. If it had been any other store, this might have been a dangerous enterprise. But you knew they were having the 70% off clearance sale, so you were safe.

  4. Sounds like the man has had a wife or mother to shop for him most of his life.

  5. OK, while I'll admit that there was a period of time there ('cause I'm at that "difficult age") when I was convinced I was one size, and it turns out I was another, but the thought of asking a total stranger to tell me something that I should already know?
    Oh I don't think so.
And I WILL ask for directions.
But ask you to tell me my pant size?
    Wow.

But hey, nice of you to be helpful.

And a "middle aged man" who is only a 30 32?
    Again.
    Wow.

    I think I was a 30 when I was about 16.
(and I think they were "bell bottoms"!)

  6. A little disconcerting - but hilarious! I think he needs a woman in his life or, at least, to go shopping with.

  9. I get that kind of thing all the time, maybe it's because I look like everybody's Mom....at least once a month I get asked my opinion when I'm shopping in the grocery, probably because I scrutinize every label...and seem like I know something..little do they know!
Thanks for helping the Guy out, it's little niceties like that that makes the world a better place!

  13. Now that was definitely a man whose wife or companion was working or shopping elsewhere yesterday..because we "definitely" know he was on a solo shopping trip and I would venture to say "his wife usually buys all his clothes for him " lol what a great helper you are...I've had men come up to me while shopping and ask.."what size are you" you look the same size as my wife...you just know he was out shopping for her for some special occasion...lol

  15. That's pretty weird. If YOU could read it, why couldn't he? It was nice of you to help him.

Sounds like a great sale! I've never been in a FM, I didn't know they had things other than groceries.

  17. Note to Barbara - the size tags and info are in the BACK of the Levis - guess he didn't want to go into the dressing room and look. NO WAY would I have looking anywhere other than the back of his waistband - but you did make me laugh!!!
