Moving On – Brown’s Millpond to Highlands RV

We left Brown’s Millpond Campground ($25 nightly) this morning and moved closer into town to the Highlands RV Park, no website.  The main reasons for moving were lack of sewer hookup or dump station and no WiFi at Brown’s.  Otherwise we would have stayed for several more nights at Browns.

Brown’s is a great place for those who enjoy a more rustic setting, as we do.  It is far enough off the highway that traffic sounds are totally absent.  The place is quiet and peaceful but you do give up some amenities that I am finding it difficult to so without.  We have discovered that we could probably go four days without dumping.  The main problem is, I want my internet!!!  Perhaps in the future I will have to relent and purchase some type of plan where I can get fairly consistent service.  McDonalds just didn’t cut it!  What I don’t understand is why I had the same speed of connection at McDonald’s that I have here yet I could not upload anything from Mickey D’s???  Perhaps they block uploads?

Anyway we enjoyed our days at Brown’s Millpond Campground and highly recommend it if you are ever in the area.  Here are some of our memories from those days.

Poppy usually avoids getting more than her front toes wet, but she was loving this creek right along with Rusty.  She even waded clear across to get to her Daddy.

This may not look like much from the outside but inside are some of the nicest rest room and shower facilities you are likely to find.  HUGE showers and everything is spotless.

As we were leaving I snapped this photo at the intersection of Hwy. 395 and the road into the campground.  The White Mountains are in the background.


I always love the view of the sierras going north from Bishop on Hwy. 395.  Since we were headed south, I couldn’t resist snapping this photo in my side view mirror.  I was driving the Fit and Russ had Therapy.  No reason to hook up the toad for a five mile trip into town.


Now going back one day to Russ’s birthday on April 11… the one thing he wanted for his birthday was breakfast at Jack’s.  And so we drove into Bishop and had a great birthday breakfast.  Behind me on the wall was a plaque that caught Russ’s eye so he made me take it off the wall and take his picture holding it,  I did put it back afterward!!  Click on the picture to enlarge if you can’t read the sign.

As I was watching Russ, I noticed the position of his head in relation to some of the “decor” and couldn't resist this shot.  He looks good with horns, wouldn’t you say?


Today we arrived at Highlands RV Park and got things all set up in record time.  We’re getting pretty good at this!  This park is definitely more urban but sometimes you just gotta!!  The folks are nice and the park is just as clean as can be.  You can see fresh rake marks in every bit of gravel.  It is too pricy for our taste ($40 nightly) but what are you gonna do when you want the conveniences??  The park is right on Hwy 395 but the traffic noise is not too bad.  Can’t say as much for the fire station next door that we didn’t notice until the volunteer siren went off!


This is an asphalt and gravel park.  The only grass is at the front of the park, but a goodly portion of that grass is for dogs!  No fence but at least they have some nice shady grass to use.  There is also a small duck pond out front and the runoff is almost a creek!  At least Rusty could get his feet wet but he really wanted to go swimming in the pond.  Sorry Rusty – no dogs!


One thing I like about traveling this time of year, is the uncrowded facilities.  Brown’s was nearly empty and except for the full-time residents, so is Highlands.  Makes it nice.  Enlarge to see “Therapy”, indicated with the yellow arrow.  When the trees get their leaves, this will be more scenic.
 
And so I must bid you farewell.  My chicken tortilla soup that I started in the crock pot when we arrived is calling me.  YUM!!
