So what have we been doing with all this “spare” time? Aside from the normal day to day and taking care of Poppy, we have had some fun times. In May we spent several days at Sunriver with my sister Laila and her husband, Brian. We had an unexpected guest join us for dinner on the patio one evening. That’s a SMILE folks, not a snarl…no, really!! We kept our distance, just in case.
We visited the High Desert Museum in Bend, OR and Brian found his “starter” RV.
We drove up to South Twin Lake in central Oregon.
We have made a couple of day trips to the coast. Poppy has faithfully ridden along in the third seat and graciously given up the middle row of the van to Brian and Laila…although we can tell she is not REAL happy about it LOL.
We’ve even had a couple of trips to the Roaring Rapids Pizza Parlor, on the banks of the Willamette River.
This pizza is good, but not my favorite, although in a setting like this, everything tastes great. The river is just to the left of this photo.
A little house sparrow waited patiently for any leftover crumbs of pizza crust.
But when he got those crumbs, he forgot to use a napkin! Just look at that messy beak.
So with all the pictures we have all taken so far this spring and summer, we decided to do something none of us has done before. We are entering pictures in the county fair!! While we don’t expect to win…
…we certainly expect to have fun trying!!

ReplyDeleteYeah, Harry had been talking about shortening our time in NY and doing some more exploring of the northern states. But we have decided to put that off for a bit because the kids are only young once, and those teenage years will come all too soon! We are enjoying being able to spend time with them while they still want to hang out with us. :)

In my case, I'm having all my fun before the grand(s)come along. I think my daughter-in-law is beginning to think baby so maybe in the next couple of years. I'm just excited about your photos in the contest. Are you going to post a picture of the ones you're entering. Good luck.

ReplyDelete1. When I was at Gold Bar campground near Moab, Utah parked with an RV group we had a raccoon invasion! I freaked out because one kept "scampering" around on my roof. However, I found out the next morning that two RV-ers had actually had midnight visitors INSIDE their rigs. One had left the door open and the bandit snagged a granola bar out of her fanny pack and then climbed into her bed!
2. A fried of mine flew into Portland and I picked her up for a week-long circuit of the Oregon Coast. Cali DID NOT APPRECIATE her dog bed being moved into the rear and constantly tried to sit on Lucy's lap. Cali would sulk by facing us with her rear end - even though she was just inches away in the back part of the RV. My friend Lucy was a good sport and when I dropped her off at the airport she told Cali that she could have her seat back now!

When we lived WAY outside of Salt Lake City in the desert, we'd see those "RV"s... they belonged to the Basque sheep herders and were moved from place to place as were the sheep. So.. Russ just needs a Great Pyrenees dog to go along with him... but that might make Poppy jealous. Glad you're having a great summer... you sure are seeing beautiful scenery!

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't go near a smiling raccoon, either! Good photos of the House Sparrow. I took some, also, here in the Home Depot parking lot. They are really pretty birds!
I love your photos! They make me want to visit that area of the country. I think I would stay away from the coon too though.

DeleteSounds like y'all r enjoying ur summer and that's what u should do. Our grandkids have hit the teen years and now have their own lives and things to do. I was a little hurt at first but I know they love us, they're just busy living their lives-that's when I decided it's time for us ole codgers to live our's too. That's why I love rv'ing so much. Getting ready to head out in a couple of weeks if everything is a go from our vet. Killer seems to be doing fine and we've learned to watch and listen to him-we follow his lead, although sometimes we have to be mama and daddy and slow him down a bit. Love all ur pics so have a good feeling u will win! My daughter and granddaughters have entered our fair here which is in October and both have won ribbons. Hope y'all have the same good luck. You're lucky Poppy is rather small, this big galoot of ours Mr Riggins, would put ME in the third seat and he would ride shotgun :-), I only outweigh him by a few pounds and he has more muscle than flab. Give Poppy a pat from us.
