The azaleas are about 4’ tall and go all along the edge of the front lawn. I will be losing most, if not all, of them this summer to the progress of a sidewalk that is neither wanted nor needed!! (yeah, I’m not happy about it!)
The lilac is just beginning to bloom.
It needs to be trimmed. Does anyone know the best way to cut back a lilac without injuring it?The rhodies are just getting started.
I thought there were birds in the birch tree but when I looked up, this fella was watching me! I think he was wondering if I had anything for him to eat. I do spoil the squirrels.
Around back, the peonies should be blooming any day now.
The buds are HUGE.
The blue vinca makes a great ground cover by the pond and bird bath (but those haven’t been cleaned yet so no picture LOL)
The columbine will be in full bloom soon.
I even have some Bleeding Hearts (no political statement intended hahaha)
But the best blossom of all is our very own POPPY.
Goodness, you are bursting out in BLOOM everywhere!!!

We call that Poppy's "nest". She has scraped away a bit of a hollow and loves sleeping under that bush - as long as we are outside with her!! She is our most precious blossom.

WOW...you guys are about 1-2 weeks ahead of Ohio. We have very few buds. The weather this week has been beautiful, but winter lasted way too long. My favorite flower...Poppy.
ReplyDeletePooped Poppy found a good place for a nap! You sure have plenty of spring color to enjoy. Sorry you're losing the azaleas ... can you have them plant new ones once they finish the work. They won't be the same size, of course, but would give you beautiful blooms to look forward to every spring and watch the plants grow anew.

ReplyDeleteI used to have tons of beautiful flowers, between gohpers, moles, rabbits and too many hours on the job, sadly no longer....if u make it my way I have all the tools u need to make mine pretty again...:-)

ReplyDeleteEugene looks as green and flowery as Grants Pass just down the road from you... Lilacs bloom on the previous years wood, so this kind of lilac should be trimmed back right after they bloom. If you trim them in the fall, they won't bloom the next year. It doesn't seem to hurt them much to trim them back when they are actively growing, unlike some other shrubs that don't get too happy about it.

ReplyDeleteI love lilac and it's too warm for it here to grow well. I wonder if Azaleas can be pruned and transplanted, that's if you'll still have room after they make the path. I have successfully transplanted medium sized camelias.

ReplyDeletePoppy IS the best blossom! What a sweet picture. Lilacs. I miss lilacs. They don't grown in the south. My azaleas are just about done, though I have another variety that blooms a little later. Still annoyed about my daffy.
