Amah is an amazing woman. Widowed for the second time, this 87 year old woman has chosen to maintain her home and her independent lifestyle. She is incredibly sharp witted and has always taken care of herself and others. And yes, she has a bit of a stubborn streak. One would have to in order to endure what she has overcome in her life.
Amah is realizing that she will have to give up her independent lifestyle and for the first time is willing to talk about that. We have tried to be supportive of what she has wanted to do, but there comes a time when living alone is no longer an option. I think of what I will do and how I will feel when that day comes for me. It won't be easy. We will try and help her as much as we can through this transition. A lot will depend on how well she heals from this broken hip.
We got home in time to take the dogs to the lake for a short walk. The lake is filled to the brim right now and the boats are starting to reappear in the marina. We saw a few geese but were not close enough for a good picture. Rusty did a little swimming and our brave Poppy girls got right in up to her knees! That's good for her.
The lake looks blue right now but during the summer it gets dirty and brown. That's okay, it's still a great place to walk the dogs (and us!).
We are leaving in the morning for a short family visiting trip. First stop is Spirit Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde. Russ's sister and brother live almost across the street from this casino and so we will be meeting them for a nice buffet dinner and some visiting time. We will park Therapy in the Casino parking lot for the night. This casino does not have an RV park.
From there we will go to Oregon City and Gresham to visit with two of our kids and their families. Hoping we can get a campsite at the Clackamette RV Park. This is an Oregon City park right where the Willamette and Clackamas rivers meet. They do not take reservations so it is the luck of the draw as to who gets the camping spots. Wish us luck!! Hopefully we will have some pictures of this park in the next couple of days.
Right now, I'm TIRED and gonna hit the sack.
I've driven by the Clackamette park, and even drove there to ride my bike one time, but we've never stayed in that park...too close to home, I guess. ;)

ReplyDeleteYour Amah sounds like my Nana. She took it very hard when they finally refused to renew her license and thus curtailed her independence. She was about the same age, when she finally agreed that living alone was no longer an option. It's best when they come to the realization on their own; makes the transition easier.
ReplyDeleteThat transition from fully independent to needing some help is so hard. My parents really did try to make it easy for us kids and I sure hope I can do the same for mine. Have fun with the family. We'll be visiting kids later this week and sure am looking forward to it.

ReplyDeleteAs for "the decision" abour giving up independence -- we are a bunch closer to that age that most of our readers, and I suppose yours as well. Not THAT close, of course, but one never knows. We pray that our decision will come easily, timely, and independently!
