I remember when I was a kid and my daddy would make shaped pancakes for me on a Saturday morning. Why do the pancakes taste so much better when they are shaped like Mickey Mouse, or a dog, or a rabbit? I carried on the tradition for my kids and grandkids, but no one has made a “fancy” pancake for me in years, until this morning! Our favorite cook, Rose, went the extra mile and not only made us a delicious “flapjack”; she put a smiley face right into the cake!

The eyes even have pupils and it has a fancy nose and a happy smile. Isn’t that just too cool?
Russ’s was similar but then he had to go and play around with it and decorate it with his eggs and bacon!
I’ve said it before, and it’s still true, it doesn’t take much to amuse us! Must be the age…
I know you folks in desert country get some really nice sunsets. We can’t compete this time of year as our sky is gray more often than not, but Russ did get a shot of a somewhat colorful sunrise this morning from our front yard.
No that is not frost on the trees, that’s just the fog rolling in. Sorry, that’s all we got for color right now!! It did turn out to be a partly sunny day with mild temperatures, so we managed to get the corner of our fence fixed. One whole side of the fence needs to be replaced but that is going to cost big $$ so we just made a repair to hold us over. Hope it lasts through the winds that always seem to come in March.
Valentine’s Day is over and gone but I forgot to tell my Sweetie (in print!) how much I appreciated the flowers. I wanted to get a picture in the blog so I would have it when I print my blog book. So here they are!!
I just love this heart-shaped vase. And then he also surprised me with a bouquet of red and white roses. I think I’ll keep him!!

WHAT a nice cook to think of doing that for you. I liked the way Russ fixed his up. He is one happy looking guy in the picture. Going to have to try that place the next time we spend a few days in Eugene. Like the flowers he gave you they were beautiful. Have a great upcoming week!

ReplyDeleteYeah... he sounds like a keeper for sure! Now... what kind of syrup did you have? That's what makes the perfect flapjack for me... mine has to be real maple syrup... no other flavors.

There is a huge difference between flapjacks and pancakes. Flapjacks are just as you described. It's the way we know pancakes from Germany. They are wayyy more tasty than those puffy pancakes you find most places.

ReplyDeleteThose flapjacks sound like the pancakes Mui makes ... he got the recipe from mom, and occasionally makes them as a treat. Once we get settled back in somewhere, I'll have to get him to make some for us ... for now, cereal and oatmeal just have to tide us over.

Between Big Spring & San Angelo, TX, in the city of Sterling City on US 87 there is/was a cafe that served the BIGGEST PANCAKE IN TEXAS!!! If you could eat it at one sitting(I DID) IT WAS FREE!! If you ate TWO it was free FOR A YEAR!!! IF YOU COULD EAT THREE, YOU ATE FREE FOR LIFE!!! They would fit TIGHTLY into an EXTRA LARGE GIANT PIZZA BOX !!!! I WAS FULL, BUT I DID IT!!!!
