Am I Just Prejudiced?

…or am I the only one who thinks my youngest is incredibly talented?  This is not a travel blog, or an outdoors blog or a weather blog.  This is an unabashed BRAGGING Blog.  But that’s okay, as we have all agreed in the past, I can write what I feel I want to write, right?!?!  And today I want to brag on my youngest son, the one who just got married on Valentine’s day.

We went to drop off a video of the wedding that I made for the newlyweds and this is what was on Joel’s worktable.  He made it for his new little step-daughters.

Mad Hatter

They wanted the Mad Hatter and this is what he came up with.  And since I’m in bragging mode here are a few more of his latest works.  This guy he calls “Political Commentary.”

Political commentary

At one time he made some wall plaques.  I have the Grumpy Butler hanging at my front door.  He made signs for me to hang from the Butler such as No soliciting, No smoking, etc.  He never liked his Santa plaque but I thought it was great.

     Santa Claus

Just a few more… These were designed to be garden plaques.  The one on the left represents wind and the one on the right is earth.
Blowy guy
  The Green man

And finally, just a couple I really like, just because.
The Aviator
  Old Man

So there you have it.  No reason for this post other than I am so proud of this talented young man and wanted to share his work.  It’s too bad he does not do this for a living but you know what they say about starving artists!!  It’s true!   And so he is a computer programmer by trade and an artist when he has time.  Thank you Joel for sharing your wonderful gift.

  5. What a creative guy> I once knew a man who worked for Disney doing those animatronic critters, but he eventually ended up making really amazing fantasy sculptures and selling them at high end craft shows. aka starving artist!

  9. Truly fine work. As a huge fan of sculpting, these really are exceptional. Does he work from models or just wing it? My favorites, the first and the last.

One more question, does he have a blog???

  10. I'd be bragging, too! Your son has great talent. Even in this day and age, he's got a talent that can make him a living.

  16. You can see he is enjoying what he is doing. Great smiles!

Originally I started selling my animals so the house wouldn't "fill up" I have never made more than i would have working at McDonalds, but it has been a fun and satisfying ride. If i had had to support myself or a family I would never have spent so any hours on my art work. I would always be an artist however. As is he.

  22. Not prejudiced at all ... rightfully proud. Joel's very talented ... those quirky pieces would bring a smile to one's face each time one sees them. Maybe he can show a few at a local crafts market.

  23. Wow he is sure talented and has a gift for bring a face out to a human quality. Be safe out there, Sam & Donna..

  24. Oh, my!! Fabulous talent, no question. And brag all you want, girl! :) Thanks for sharing those great works of art. Very cool.

  25. It's not bragging when you tell a truth. He's is good. Girl at restaurant is very talented artist also, has art degree, has had a couple of gallery showings, had to go back and get another degree in something she can make a living at. Kinda rubs me wrong way when you see one of the 'new' artists that get big bucks for a painting that looks like Riggins could have done, and talented young people like your son and my friend can only do it for pleasure.

  26. Fantastic work! His outlook on life and his inner happiness comes out in his work. I love the Political Commentary. The facial expressions are out of this world. Thanks for sharing

  27. HOLY COW! That's amazing! Those are great to say the very least!!! I'm wondering what the medium is though. At first I thought it was wood carving, but now I'm thinking it's clay sculpting or somthing like that. Regardless, you all have to live in an area where there are many summertime festivals and I sincerely believe he has something going on there that would sell!!! Especially anything garden related ~ that stuff is so hot now he might be amazed at the prices he could get!!!

    So brag away (other) momma!!!

  29. You've got every right to brag those are Incredible.

Your son probably wants to keep it as a hobby so he doesn't tire of it or feel pressured into mass producing these fantasic works of Art in order to make a living.

    It's about time.
